Royal Assent has been given by Her Majesty The Queen for new regimental titles in the Infantry, UK Defence Secretary, John Reid announced today. The changes are part of the Future Army Structure (FAS) which is developing a more deployable, agile and flexible Army. This new structure is now reflected in the titles of the new multi-battalion regiments. The Royal Regiment of Scotland. Regimental formation will be on the 28 Mar 2006 with The Royal Scots Battalion and The King’s Own Scottish Borderers Battalion of The Royal Regiment of Scotland merging on 1 Aug 06 . They will become known as the 'Royal Scots Borderers, 1st Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland'. At the same time on 1 August 2006 the following changes will be made... The Royal Highland Fusiliers will be known as the 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland. The Black Watch will be the 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland. The Highlanders will be the 4th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland. The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders will be the 5th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland. The TA Scottish element will also be involved...Their changes will be... 52nd Lowland become the 6th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland and 51st Highland the 7th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland.
